Since gambling and games were popular pastimes during the civil war, card tables were an important piece of furniture. So much so that several such tables could be found in a single home, mainly in the salon or drawing room. Given that there was no radio or television during this period of time, playing cards was a common form of entertainment. Leisure time with card games was a life style where the card table played an important part. Women as well as men took part in game playing. Among the several basic styles were circular, tripod, square and pedestal tables. The version I chose to copy is a pedestal type with corner glass holders.

It is a truly an American Civil War Classic.
