Steamboat Hall / Coat Tree
72” tall x 24” wide x 12” deep
|
Originally the design of this hall /coat tree came from the banks of the
Missouri River. Down stream from the wreck of the steamboat Montana, (about
600 to 700 feet) the remnants of this hall tree were found buried in the
sand banks in several bits and pieces. Originally made from cypress, the
pieces were fit together and a pattern to make a new hall tree was
reconstructed.
When the river levels drop in the St. Charles, Missouri, area, the skeleton of this grand steamboat are exposed. The steamboat Montana is still visible today when the Missouri river levels drop. Whether or not this hall tree was part of the steamboat wreck is up for discussion.
The hall / coat tree is of similar designs to those found in pictures taken during the Civil War. The kit is an exact reproduction of what was dug out of the Missouri river banks.
