Final Assembly Now is the time to assemble the case permanently. Disassemble the case. Reassemble the back frame, this time applying glue to the inside of the tenons. Clamp the two sides together, install the pocket screws and be sure to wipe any excess glue off with a wet rag. Make sure the front surfaces of the rails are flush with the style. Apply glue to the inside mortise joints (slots), the two inside pieces and then fit the center top piece (with the curved front) in place. Apply glue to the inside mortise joints (slots) of the base and fit the center top piece assembly onto the base. Install two screws to hold the centerpieces together. Apply glue to the inside mortise joints (slots), the two inside pieces and then place the partitions in the mortise joint (slots) on the other side of the center top piece. Apply glue to the mortise joints of the outside vertical pieces and base. Put the outside vertical pieces in place. With a square, make sure all angles are at 90 degrees. Clamp and let dry over night. With the wooden frame assembled, take time to sand with 180 grid sand paper, lightly make a sanding pass on all edges. Be sure to sand all joints to make sure the transitions are smooth to the touch. Now position the coat hooks on the frame and drill with a 1/8 inch drill bit. Use the Steel screws to attach the coat hooks to the frame. Remove the coat hooks before applying the finish. Apply The Finish Of Your Choice. Be sure to apply the finish to all sides of the hall tree, front, sides and back. |
