Tile Strip
While the finish on the hall tree is drying, glue the tiles to a piece of 1/8 plywood.
How much tile adhesive do you use? It's simple. Butter the plywood with about a 1/16
of an inch of adhesive, then butter each tile with about a 1/16 of an inch of adhesive and
press the tile to the plywood. Place the tiles right next to each other so they touch. Let
them dry overnight. The next day, apply the adhesive in the joints to use as grout. Use a
wet sponge at a 45 degree angle to the joints to get a uniform finish. Clean the sponge
about every third stroke or so. Let dry another 24 hours. Place the tile strip into the
dado on the rear of the back frame and secure with 4 hold down washers. Be careful not to
over tighten these washers or you will break the tile strip. They should be just snug, so
the tile strip can float in the wooden frame. |
