Walnut
A mostly straight-grained (with occasional curly grain) fine wood, walnut is used for high
quality furniture, cabinetmaking, interior joinery and turning. It is the wood of choice
for rifle butts and gunstocks. It is also a fine choice for high quality furniture. The
sap is the pale young wood on the outside of the tree. There may be a small variance in
the color when a clear finish is applied to walnut furniture. Some people apply a walnut
stain to make the finish have a more consistent color.
